Benny O’ Connell worked as a bellboy, a barman, a waiter, a chef and a hotel manager, until he eventually fulfilled his dream of owning his own business.

The early philosophy was simple: To make food that tasted like home. The ethos remains the same to this day, but from our new larger premises on Lower Main Street. Now we have a large Cafe, Deli, Specialist Grocery shop and of course Breadshop.

Anne Marie grew up over the shop and like the rest of her siblings worked in Benny's from an early age. After over a decade of working as a designer in London, Anne Marie returned to Castlerea in 2017 to continue the next generation of Benny's Deli.

Our Team are made up of nearly 20 talented and passionate individuals. We pride ourselves on great customer service and attention to the details

We strive to only use the best ingredients in Benny's, sourcing from local and Irish suppliers and supporting small independent businesses like ourselves. Our retail section is crammed with the best artisan foods and organic wines!

Our Bakery Flat is ideally located in the heart of Castlerea and perfect for visit family in the area or enjoy a Staycation in Ireland's Hidden Heartlands. The apartment has 2 Double rooms and 1 Single Bedroom and can accommodate up to 5 adults, or a family of 5 comfortably.

Refill Store

Reduce your use of single use plastics as part of your weekly shop. In our refill section our customers can buy ingredients, fresh vegetables, deli products and cleaning products, all sold by weight. Bring your own clean containers from home to fill up from our dispensers - or reuse some of our cleaned containers

Gluten Free

Benny’s has had a dedicated Gluten Free Bakery on site for over a decade.. We have a wide variety of products including soda breads, scones, fruit cakes and a gluten free version of our famous apple tart. All of our gluten free products are frozen fresh and the full range is available all year round.

Our Deli

Our delicatessen serves a selection of traditional clove baked ham, salads, potato cakes, rotisserie cooked chickens, pies and quiches. All of our deli products are prepared fresh on site each day.

Our Cafe

Benny's has a small seating area for customers to sit and enjoy our home cooked and baked goods. Cooked breakfasts are served until 12, with hearty lunches, soups and sourdough sandwiches available until 4.00.

Teas, coffees and our home made cakes and scones are served throughout the day.
